Following Miami Dolphins’s 31-24 defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals, the franchise would be picking 3rd overall should the 2027 NFL Draft be held tomorrow.

At 0-5, two other teams have also failed to win a game so far this season but the race to 1st overall is far from over.

In this latest two-round Mock Draft, the front office executes multiple trades and strengthens its offence in key positions.

Round 1, Pick 3 – Jeremiah Smith, WR

Despite two offers being on the table, the best being Pick 3 and Pick 104 for Washington’s Pick 8, 40 and 72, the front office stays put and takes Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith.

Smith could very likely be the 1st overall pick next April, regardless of who holds the selection, and for Miami to get him at 3 and without giving up picks would leave fans over the moon.

There’s not much to say about Smith that hasn’t already been discussed at both fan and media level.

The best WR prospect in a generation, arguably one of the best of all time, a Miami native that wants to ply his trade at Hard Rock Stadium.

Every game, every reception is highlight reel material for the potential Heisman winner.

Through five weeks, here are his stats:

  • 48 receptions
  • 916 yards
  • 11 touchdowns
  • 19.1 yards per reception

Secure hands, speed, ability to make tough contested catches and run every route with elite precision, Smith has it all and would arguably be a top 20 WR in Week 1.

Round 2, Pick 41 – Carter Smith, OT

At the top of the second, Washington ran again – this time wanting to move from 40 to 34 and sending a 3rd next year as well.

That trade was accepted, which meant missing out on Missouri QB Austin Simmons but with Darian Mensah on the board, it was a trade worth taking.

As was the Chiefs, who wanted to swap Pick 41 and 78 for 40 and 104.

Moving back a further spot, Miami opted between taking Mensah or giving Malik Willis more protection and taking Indiana tackle Carter Smith.

Smith at 6-5, 313lbs, has questions around his ability to stay at LT at the next level or whether he would be best suited to kick inside.

Taking a fundamentally sound, smart football player is the kind of selection the front office would make and he could be moved to RT where he wouldn’t have to worry about protecting a QBs blindside.

Then there’s Mensah. Keeping him in Miami and allowing him to sit and develop behind Willis for a few years would be great for him.

Not the finished product, and with other QBs still on the board, Smith was selected to shore up the offensive line.

Though this is a two-round mock, no other QBs were taken for the first of the second round and at the top of the third, the pick would have been Oklahoma State QB Drew Mestemaker.
A traitsy QB who is climbing up draft boards, Mestemaker needs time to sit in the NFL and Miami would be a great spot for him to learn on the job.
At 6-3, 211lbs, Mestemaker won’t be here in real life as he is currently projected to be taken in the 1st round.
Can play both in and out of structure, high-level arm with velocity, he would have a great platform and supporting cast in Smith, Devon Achane, Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Malik Washington.
